The 7th National Session of EYP Cyprus was successfully held at Pascal English School in Larnaca, between 29th August – 1st September 2013.

EYP Cyprus is grateful for the patronage of the European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth, Mrs. Androulla Vassiliou, who supported our event.

Higlights of the session included the panel discussion, “Discussing Europe.” In the context of the European Year of Citizens 2013, the debates revolved around the theme: “Shaping tomorrow in a time of indifference.” The delegates had the opportunity to hear from expert speakers including: Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Andreas D. Mavroyiannis, Commissioner for NGOs and Volunteering, Yiannis Yiannaki and Mr. Nicos Marcou. Following their insightful speeches, the participants engaged in a Q&A with our three experts.

The session was presided by Sophie Scannell (IE). The Head-Organisers of the session were Helena Pierides and Solonas Karoullas. The Editor of the session was Arriana Yiallourides.

With 2013 named the ‘European Year of Citizens’, the central theme of the 7th National Session of EYP Cyprus “Defy indifference, Shape tomorrow” focused on raising awareness and provoking discussions on the rights and benefits that come with EU citizenship. The session provided its young participants with a platform to build, shape and voice how they want their future to look like. The delegates discussed topics on civil rights and duties, consumer rights, social security and others and formed resolutions proposing solutions to these burning issues.
