With its theme as ‘Disillusioned Citizens – Rebuilding Trust’, the 5th National Session of the European Youth Parliament (EYP) Cyprus will be held from the 1-4 September at the Xenion High School in Paralimni. The session is organised by the European Youth Parliament Cyprus in cooperation with the European Parliament Office in Cyprus.
The 165 participants at the session include students from fifteen Cypriot schools, various international members of EYP from European countries such as Italy, France and Greece, as well as a number of experienced EYP Cyprus alumni. As well as considering the general theme of the session, participants will be divided into 10 separate committees and will be debating various socio-political and economic problems that are currently affecting the European Union. The committees will draw up a resolution aiming to tackle their topic and these will then all be discussed in the General Assembly, which will be taking place on the final day of the session.
The aim of the session’s theme, ‘Disillusioned Citizens – Rebuilding Trust’, is to provoke discussions surrounding the increasing detachment of European citizens from politics on both a national and European level. On Saturday September 3, session participants will discuss topics relating to the session theme in an event called ‘Discussing Europe’, with the title “Disillusioned Citizens – How to prevent an entire generation from losing trust in politics”. This discussion will take place in the presence of invited experts in sociological and European policy fields. The participants of the session will be invited to consider the reasons behind the trend of citizens losing their trust in politics; as well as taking into account how trust can be re-established. The roles of Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and their role in the political process will also be examined during the discussion.
Our organisation would like to invite all journalists interested in the session and in the ‘Discussing Europe’ event to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
The EYP Cyprus would like to thank its generous sponsors and supporters, who have made this session possible for all 165 participants.
